Mexico 2024 Trip Report

Ten fabulous women came together Feb 3-10 at Kay Fly lodge and killed it! Day one unfolded with one boat landing 9 Permit and hooking a Tarpon well over 100 pounds. They had to break the Tarpon off when the boat (chasing the hooked Tarpon) was heading for another boat. Two ladies in additional boats also brought Permit to hand that day for a total of 11 Permit day one!  Strong winds came in day two and we fished near the mangroves chasing Bonefish, Tarpon and Snook. Throughout the week the weather gods gave us a few more sunny breaks and two more Permit were brought to hand -despite Barracuda in pursuit!

Gratefully we offer credit to our Kay Fly guide team who worked hard to put us in the right places every day. Two of the ladies landing Permit had never caught one. This team was always ready to teach better casting, knots, answer questions about the area, gear and more.

We celebrated two birthday’s (with delicious home made cake) while we were there, went to a local soccer game, ate shrimp, lobster, mole, ceviche and several other authentic local dishes that were too good to pass up! Pepe’s margaritas are always well received (and consumed) during happy hour and dinner.

A total of 13 Permit were brought to hand, one large tarpon hooked, plentiful amounts of bones, Snook, Barracuda, and Jacks were also landed. Next year’s dates are already starting to fill! If you want to reserve a spot don’t wait!

Peacock Bass -Brazil   -3 Spots Left!
December 28 - January 4, 2025

What is on your bucket list? How about Peacock Bass for a New Years Eve celebration? This one will be an epic adventure with a great group of fishy ladies and we've got three spots left.

Anglers from around the world have been astounded and charmed by the spectacular and unspoiled rain forest surroundings and the ultimate fly-fishing experience of sight-fishing for Peacock Bass at Agua Boa lodge. 20 different species of fish on the fly have been landed here, with different species of Peacock Bass being the prime target. These range in size from the Butterfly Peacock with an average size of 3 to 5 lbs., up to the giant Tucanare Peacock Bass averaging around 23 lbs.. Pirarucu, Piranha, Aruana, and Pacu are also plentiful.

The Agua Boa is the only fly-fishing only stretch of river in Brazil. This coveted designation was granted after lengthy negotiations with the regional government and allows the lodge to provide quality fishing throughout the season. All fishing is done with single, barbless hooks. When at normal levels, the water is so clear, and most strikes are visible; a good percentage of your days will be spent sight fishing. It should be noted, however, that the sight fishing opportunities are dependent on light and water levels. We've got great dates that traditionally produce sight fishing.

In addition to the fishing, you’ll have a chance to see tapir, giant Amazon river otters, howler monkeys, capuchin monkeys, soldier storks, macaws, parrots, toucans, etc. This is a spectacular jungle experience – the river itself is an aquarium
